Tom Murphy

Gold Coast defender Tom Murphy is expected to announce his retirement in the coming days.

His manager Paul Connors spoke at an open forum discussion at La Trobe University tonight, alongside Emma Quayle from The Age and Cats’ CEO Brian Cook.

“Tom Murphy is going to retire,” Connors said. “We’re just going over how he’s going to do it.”

The former Hawk has played 112 games, including 95 with the brown and gold. He was named as an emergency for the 2008 Premiership, and made way for captain Luke Hodge ahead of the 2012 Grand Final.

Murphy crossed over to the Suns just prior to the 2013 season as an unrestricted free agent. He penned a two year deal then, and it is expected to be his last.
