As the historic first season of AFL Women’s football is now upon us with the opening clash between Carlton and Collingwood, we here at The Drop Punt thought it only fitting that there be an award from our perspective for the best player of the season.

Each match will see the best five players given votes, and a game-by-game summary of the vote-getters, and the associated leaderboard will take place at the conclusion of each round of football.

There are sure to be some terrific performances and thrilling action across the inaugural season, and as each week unfolds, undoubtedly some players will stand out above the others.

So, who will win the very first Player of the Year award? That remains to be seen, but it should be a fun and exciting time over the coming weeks in finding out!

In addition, if you have do any suggestions as to who we can name the award after, they will be much appreciated too!
